Megamind: Delightful and wholly fascinating !

Rating: 3.5/5

Here is everything which can lay hold of the eye, ear and imagination - everything which can charm everybody, yes everybody.

Makers of “Shrek” & “Kung-fu-panda” have come up this time with the most popular saga with animation movies, i.e. evil vs. good. But there are lot of twists and turns in it which keeps you & your brain occupied throughout.

Blue headed disgustingly horrible Megamind is the one who is ignored by the world and his frustration leads him to become a Villian. He is a kind of a Villian whose every possible plan is damn predictable & asinine. Though somehow out-of-blue his plan works one day (in disguise) and in a metro city which is guarded by dashing and muscular Metro man (voiced by Brad Pitt), he defeats the hero. Amazingly, he is sad about it. With that uncharacteristic note, story moves ahead with lots of jolts.

Megamind (voiced by Will Farrell) creates a Villian with whom he can fight endlessly. In the time being, he falls in love with Roxanne Richi (voiced by Tina Fey) who possibly later becomes the love interest of that artificial villain. How Megamind sustains his friendship with Manion who supported him in his every stupid plan? How evil turns good? How an ugly creature like Megamind wins love? Those are the axes about which this movie revolves.

An animation movie is never really good unless the camera is an eye in the head of its writer. Must say, it is sharply written and animation is just awesome. 3d effects make it more alluring and ebullient. Metro city is adoringly crafted and fight sequences in it are visually stunning. Both, use of old soundtracks & amusing dialogues add much required glitter to it. Voices from all actors fit snugly and they never miss a beat.

Well, when there is evil, good has to rise up. Consider all other releases this week as evil against whom Megamind stands tall not just by being good, but by being best. This one’s the movie which you should look forward to in the last week of 2010, irrespective of your age!

Tron Legacy: Walt Disney's hi-tech trash !

Rating: 1.5/5

Tron released in 1982, took 6 years in its making and it was tentatively more intellectual, spectacular and convincing than the sequel which hits cinemas this weekend in 3d.

To figure out storyline of Tron Legacy, you would either need help of some geek who might have watched its first installment with infinite curiosity or Google, and that’s for sure. Storyline is too complicated for a normal movie goer to comprehend. Still, let’s peep into the plot of the movie which is wonderfully-executed but foolishly-written.

Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) steps into the virtual world with the help of clue given by his dad’s loyal man, Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner). The virtual world was dexterously imagined and constructed for betterment of the world by protagonist’s father Kevin (Jeff Bridges) who is astonishingly caged inside it since 20 years. Tron and Clu are the programs which were created for the assistance. Tron gets murdered and Clu becomes the opponent of Flynn who mysteriously invites Sam into the virtual world. Sam enters that virtual world with an aim to pull his dad out from that world.

Gaming arenas have never ever been so boring and mind numbing as it is in this movie. Now, Gladiatorial gaming scenes are shot in a visually stunning style but they are lengthy, so tiresome and predictability is the thing which hinders this movie the most. Nail biting thrill never ever takes place and every fight sequences seems to be the cake walk for our leads. “Quorra” (Olivia Wilde) is the worst written character of the movie and the charm or chemistry which one expects between the leads is purely missing.

Budget of this movie is $ 200 million. Yes, such is the huge investment. Design of the movie is wholly awesome especially “Light cycle”. That’s the most noticeable spectacle of the movie. 3d effects were impressive but as a whole this movie fails to entertain because of its almost indescribable-perplexing descriptive plot.

Basic aspects of film making has not been given due importance & that’s how this film shatters. Acting by none of the actors is convincing. Absence of sharp dialogues and tight screenplay makes the scenario nastiest. Warmth which we expect from Walt Disney’s movie is also deficient.

At the end, it’s nothing but Walt Disney’s Hi-tech trash. Watch it if during movies, you like lots of question marks blinking in your brain.
